Can Our Pets Join the Holiday Feast?

The holidays put your pets at eye level with the festive table. What can you share safely? The answer comes in two columns: fine and toxic.

✅ What You Can Share (in moderation)

  • Turkey or chicken — without skin or seasoning
  • Cooked green beans — a good source of fibre
  • A little cheese — if your pet tolerates dairy well

Always check for known allergies before introducing a new food.

🚫 What Is Dangerous or Toxic

  • Foie gras — too fatty, risk of pancreatitis
  • Smoked salmon — too high in salt
  • Cooked bones — splinter and can perforate the intestine
  • Chestnuts — can cause intestinal obstruction
  • Grapes and dried fruit — acute kidney failure in dogs
  • Chocolate — theobromine is a genuine POISON for pets
  • Onions, garlic, leeks — haemolytic anaemia
  • Alcohol — extremely dangerous even in tiny amounts

In Case of Accidental Ingestion

Contact the veterinary poison control centre immediately (France: 04 78 87 10 40) or your on-call vet. Never induce vomiting without professional advice.
